Leroy Logan MBE, BSc (Hons)

 

Leroy Logan is a science graduate with several years' postgraduate research experience who joined the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) in 1983, serving in predominantly inner London stations. Leroy served as the Superintendent of Hackney borough between 2004-2007, and has significantly contributed towards three annual Commissioner's Commendations given to Hackney as top performing borough in the MPS.

Leroy has a wealth of experience in delivering community programmes, including Project Managing an award winning community empowerment and consultation programme in Westminster and Lambeth, developed and delivered by the Metropolitan Black Police Association (Met BPA).

This programme was the driving force behind the formation of a thriving youth forum called the YBPA (Young Black Positive Advocates), also the anti-drugs/gun crime Revival strategy launched in 2002, under the heading ‘Stop the Killing Start the Healing'; attempting to galvanise communities to be the changes they wish to see.

Leroy's expertise has also involved becoming a member of the Lawrence Steering Group, work on the Victoria Climbie Inquiry, the 2005 ‘Morris' and ‘Commission' for Racial Equality' Inquiry reports which he put forward a business case for affinity policing,recognising the life skills of police officers contributing to the development of the Cultural and Communities Resource Unit. This came as a result of the Damilola Taylor investigation.

Leroy's efforts were publicly recognised in the Queen Elizabeth ll January 2000 honours list, where he was appointed as an MBE, for his work in the Police Service for developing community and race relations, in addition to standing up for people's human rights.

Most recently in 2006 Leroy was a prominent figure in spearheading TRUCE London an outreach programme in partnership with members of a faith based Outreach team from the USA called TRUCE and a number of London based multi-agency organisations, in an attempt to combat gun violence and gang/drug culture in the London Borough of Hackney.
